Community Involvement, dimension variable / Netherlands and Hong Kong / 2019 Sharing stories that revolve around food ingredients and the cooking, the dinner event brings together people from different neighbourhoods, providing more playful ways of considering other’s historical background. It builds up communal intimacy, a richer and more accessible cultural understanding about food and people. Based on the stories of communities gatherings in Hong Kong and Utrecht, the artist further developed a live event in which she combined the eating, the reading and the sharing together. The whole dining table hence became an eatable exhibition space, in which personal food stories and recipes from the former participants were placed next to their respective ingredients in different parts of the table. From the kitchen where the artist cooked, the food came out in the same order of the stories that were placed on the table. After dinner, people were invited to draw or write on their used placemats. In the end, in a casual and interactive way, people consumed the dessert.
